This is a great make ahead the night before breakfast idea kids and adults will love. I’ve made it for Christmas morning and Easter morning and for friends who have had babies. It tastes like a big gooey cinnamon roll but with the texture of French toast. So yummy and super easy to whip up!
Start by spraying you 9×13 casserole dish with pam and cutting up your French bread into slices and arranging in the dish like so……
next you’ll whisk together 8 eggs, 2 cups of half & half, 1 cup of milk, 2 tbsp sugar, 1 tsp vanilla, 1/4 tsp cinnamon, 1/4 tsp nutmeg, dash of salt.
Then pour over sliced French bread in casserole dish.
Cover casserole dish and refrigerate overnight. (I’ve also made right away and its still delicious).
If you decided to refrigerate overnight, make the topping right before baking, so you’ll also want to preheat oven to 350 degrees while preparing the topping, so it is ready to bake right after pouring over.
In a saucepan on low heat, add 1 stick butter, 1 cup brown sugar, 1 cup pecans, 2 tbsp corn syrup or maple syrup, 1/2 tsp cinnamon, 1/2 tsp nutmeg
Pour topping over the soaked French bread.
Cover with aluminum foil and bake at 350 for 60 minutes.
ENJOY!
